Easy Homemade Gravy Recipe with a Twist

This easy homemade gravy recipe goes perfect with this flaky butter-rich biscuit recipe! I took this gravy recipe from another Tasty recipe I've made many times. I just used breakfast sausage instead. Start this gravy once your biscuits are baking the oven.

Here is the easy grave recipe with my tips in pink:

1. Drizzle a bit of oil (avocado has a higher smoke point at 500°F - alternatively 1 tbsp butter) in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add 1 lb of breakfast sausage (or ground turkey) and cook until browned (usually 7-10 minutes). I've made this with ground turkey (subpar), Italian sausage (savory), and breakfast sausage (best).

2. Reduce heat to medium-low and add ¼ cup of flour (I've used All-Purpose Gluten Free and almond flour), ¼ tsp cayenne pepper and paprika, ½ tbsp rosemary and sage (fresh chopped is best), with salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine. If you're not into the seasonings, omit what you do not like but keep the salt and pepper. Give it a try as is, this gravy is delicious!

3. Add 2 cups of milk (of your choice). Almond milk kept the gravy on the thinner side and was not as flavorful. Coconut milk may be the better choice for a dairy alternative because it is so thick and rich. I do not like coconut milk, so regular milk it is for me!

4. Simmer the gravy until it reaches your desired consistency (sticks to your spoon and slowly falls off), stirring occasionally. You can add up to 2-4 tbsp more flour for a thicker, heartier gravy. You can use your flour of choice, Xanthan Gum, Arrowroot Powder, or Potato/Corn Starch.

5. ENJOY!
